Coastline was shot at Honomalino Beach south of Kona on the Big Island. As I mentioned in the prologue to this section of video’s if you’re planning on going to Hawaii, regardless of the specific island you need to purchase the corresponding book by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman. Obviously we purchased " Hawaii The Big Island Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook". There is absolutely no way on God’s green earth that you would find this beach if you did not have this book. Locating this beach is not the only reasy to purchase this book but spending time on the beach basically all to yourself is reason enough.

From the time we arrived at the parking lot (sort of) for this wonderful beach my wife and daughter were pitching a fit about having to be there. That was nothing considering the fit they threw as we hiked to the Beach. That is until we crested the sandy hill and dropped down on the beach where they simply sat in awe of not only the beauty but the mere fact we had the beach all to ourselves.

As we sat on the black sandy beach and listened to the small waves break on the shore we were simply mesmerized by the entrance of a small band of spinner dolphins into the cove. We literally sat there for almost an hour watching them as they swam in their sleep pattern within the cove. Then there is the occasional dolphin leaping out of the water spinning in the air only to return to the zombie like semi conscious swimming that is their sleep.

The water is very calm here and snorkeling is definitely more enjoyable here as there are fewer people to share the water and the water is not as volatile due to the cove like setting. But if snorkeling is not your thing and you don’t want to swim feel free just to lay back on the beach and enjoy the ocean breeze, the lightly breaking waves and the palm trees swaying in the breeze.
